Description:
Provide the value proposition of using MDA and related
specifications.Proposed Whitepaper Sections:
- Case Studies of MDA in the US Federal Government
- Enabling the FEA with MDA
- Using MDA to Drive SOA in Governmental Organizations
- Software Assurance in Government
Originally these sections had been identified as separate whitepapers
for the Roadmap. It was judged that each is an aspect of the value
proposition & therefore it was decided that an over-arching whitepaper
would be written with these sections. Each section may be selected for
future elaboration as a separate whitepaper in the future.
Objectives:
Provide a guide to governmental organizations to the advantages
of using Model Driven Architecture in the context of the regulatory
milieu (e.g., Federal Enterprise Architecture, the Clinger Cohen
Act) and the disparate and ever changing panoply of technologies
(e.g., Service Oriented Architectures, Web Services, programming
languages, middleware protocols)

Activity History:
20080623 Ottawa Meeting – The status of this work
item was reviewed. It is close to completed, but it has been very
difficult to spend time on this particular work-item given the high
level of activity on other items.
20071211 Burlingame Meeting – The review
schedule for the whitepaper is synchronized with that of the
Model Based Acquisition RFI. Both are intended to be issued in
the Washington DC Meeting 10-March-2008. Editorship assmued by
Larry Johnson of TethersEnd Consulting, Daryll Prescott of
National Archives, and George Thomas of the
General Services Administration.
20070924 Jacksonville Meeting – Work item was
reactivated. Editorship assumed by Ed McCeney, US Dept of the
Interior.
20061204 Washington DC Meeting – Work item put
on hold due to lack of resources to work it. Cycles are being
consumed by the Records Management Services and Federal
Transition Framework work items.
20060811 –
Pam Corsini, US Dept of Treasury, assumed the Editorship of the
Whitepaper
20060627 Boston GovDTF Meeting – The Work Item was not addressed at this meeting due to
work on the Records Management Services RFP (successfully issued in
this meeting). The plan is to meet the goal of issuing the
Whitepaper in Anaheim in September 2006 by writing and reviewing the
paper in between meetings using eMail and teleconferences.
20060425 St. Louis GovSIG Meeting – The Work Item
was scheduled for execution and the initial schedule established.
